Important Changes to GovReports and Xero Integration

We are very disappointed to have to inform GovReports customers that the Xero integration has been removed by Xero, effective immediately. Xero has advised us that following a review of connected apps, it has decided that GovReports no longer aligns with its broader ecosystem priorities, data-security, and the technical and support resourcing available for app partners.

The decision was made by Xero and is outside our control. We have been in discussions about this issue for some time now, but unfortunately, it seems that the decision made this week is final and the integration was removed straight away.

Lodging Forms Based on Xero Data

We understand this means a change in how you use GovReports and your workflow processes. As the automatic data sync between Xero and GovReports has ceased, you will need to enter Xero data either manually or via uploading a file.

Your existing GovReports account has not changed, but you will no longer see the Xero logo that links to the automatic data sync.

You now have three ways of getting your Xero data into GovReports.

Uploading Activity Statements via Xero Excel

  1. Complete your form in Xero. You can export from either the old version activity statement or the new activity statement.
  2. Start your form in GovReports as usual.
  3. From the GovReports File Upload menu, choose Xero Excel, then select your Excel file and complete the upload.
  4. Check the imported figures match the figures from the Xero form.
  5. Check the summary before completing the declaration and ATO submission.

Manual Entry of Data

  1. Start your form in GovReports as usual.
  2. Manually enter the correct amounts in the relevant fields, cross-checking against your Xero reports.
  3. Check the summary before completing the declaration and ATO submission.

Uploading via CSV File

  1. Complete your form in Xero.
  2. Start your form in GovReports as usual.
  3. From the GovReports File Upload menu, choose CSV.
  4. Download the BAS-Sample.csv file.
  5. Enter the figures from your Xero form into the CSV file at the correct fields.
  6. Upload the CSV file.
  7. Check the imported figures match the figures from the Xero form.
  8. Check the summary before completing the declaration and ATO submission.

Uploading the Xero Excel file is the most efficient way of entering Xero data into GovReports, as this prevents typos or other errors in the form, (assuming the data and fields in the Xero form are correct). It’s a simple and quick export and import of figures from your completed Xero forms.

If you need to use the CSV option, you can use AI tools to automate the process of extracting data from the Xero Excel file and populating the GovReports CSV template if this is useful. Otherwise, enter the figures manually into the CSV template before uploading.

For some form submissions, it will be quicker to simply enter the figures manually into the GovReports form.

GovReportsis Still Your Central Lodgement Hub

While we understand this change is not ideal, we hope that with all the other tools that GovReports offers to manage lodgements, interact with the ATO and streamline practice management, that your overall experience with GovReports will continue to be positive and effective.

Stay tuned for more updates on new releases!
